Children's Software Press

Finally, there are two piece of software that recognize that children learn in different styles and can benefit from having material presented and practiced in a variety of ways. LEGO My Style Preschool and LEGO My Style Kindergarten (Lego) are part of LEGOS first foray into software for littlest kids, but they've done their homework. In each title, respectively, kids choose either a familiar LEGO Duplo animal (preschool) or mini-person (Kindergarten) who comes to life to host a set of interactive games in four zones: music, art, language arts, and math. Which animal or character kids pick has everything to do with the learning style in which the activity is presented. For example, a music activity in the preschool title with Digit, the mathematical elephant, has to do with how many notes you play. Play with Buck, the athletic pony, and you need to follow his beat to bounce a pogo stick in time to the music. G. Howdy Cheers, the linguistic giraffe, is more interested in letters that go with the music, while Sing-Sing the musical panda, wants to rearrange actual notes on a score and play them. Finally, Looky, the artistic monkey, has placed different color fruit on the musical staff and asks kids to match them with chickens of the same colors. Once the chickens are in place, they squawk out a tune, which, of course, is greeted by giggles from young musicians. This unique multiple learning style approach gives this software series lots of staying power with a great variety in activities, rewards for completing levels, and something to appeal to every kind of young learner. The subtle message that there is more than one way to look at every activity is a novel one in the children's software genre, and a refreshing new approach. Bravo Lego!
