Children's Software Press

Mickey Mouse, Ace Reporter, is at-large and he's covering the big city beat in Mickey Mouse Kindergarten (Disney), where there are plenty of places he and kids can explore. First stop is Donald's Dance Club , where Daisy and Donald are trying to "cut a rug." But as usual, Donald's big webfeet are having a hard time keeping up with the beat. Kids are invited to help by putting foot-shaped stickers on the dance floor in the right numerical order and color pattern so that Donald can get the hang of the latest dance steps. Down the street at the hotel, the bellhops are desperately trying to keep up with service calls from hotel guests asking for bellhops with particular attributes-tall, happy, color of uniform, etc. This makes for a lively game and a great way to practice reasoning, observation, and listening skills. One disappointment was the Video Arcade , where Mickey wanders in and seeks assistance in playing a "shoot 'em up" space alien game. Flying objects appear on the screen and kids must pick out the correct number from an array at the bottom of the screen. They get the opportunity to zero in on one object and shoot it down, but then the rest of the objects disappear. Kids accustomed to real video games seem to be mystified by and disappointed at this. The emphasis on logic and thinking skills make this software stand out from the drill and practice stuff usually offered to the kindergarten crowd.
