As our story resumes we meet Dorothy and her friends, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion just before they visit the all-powerful Oz. But wait! Dorothy is stolen away by the Wicked Witch of the West and Oz tells the three friends that if they can find nine jewels, he'll help them (hopefully) get her back. So the quest in Oz- The Magical Adventure (Dorling Kindersley) to solve 9, very clever and thought provoking puzzles begins for kids who enter the magical Land of Oz, all rendered appealingly in thousands of sparkling colors and state-of-the-art animation. Down the yellow brick road, the dauntless trio will need kids help getting frogs across a bed of mushrooms that follow a certain color sequence, and turning weathervanes in just the right direction to swirl in the wind to start up a fountain. Assisting a Munchkin lady get her memory back by drinking a fruit juice cocktail mixed in just the right proportions also wins a jewel. Penguins who perform certain behaviors when they eat a particular colored fish and a water fountain with pipes that need to be twisted and turned just the right way to guide water to a tank to float one of the jewels also hone kid's classification, problem solving, and sequencing skills. This version of Oz is much more like the original book, with many more lands to explore than in the abbreviated Hollywood version-a great introduction or follow up to a bedtime reading of the book. 3 different levels of play keep kids coming back for more. The title tells it all, though-magical.
