When we were running Rescue Heroes-Hurricane Havoc (Fisher Price/ The Learning Company), I couldn't help thinking that it's almost a training ground for other more advanced rescue programs on the market for slightly older kids. While the age guidelines say ages 4 to 7, even some three-year-olds will enjoy being part of the rescue team, saving animals, flying helicopters, racing a rescue dolphin, and using a crane to recover priceless objects out of a museum. Players are rewarded with badges at the end of each mission, and those completing all missions are granted access to the Rescue Hero Design Lab to create and design their own customized rescue gear. The software goes along with the new toy line and television show of the same name. The team that designed this software deserves credit for somehow encapsulating the warm and fuzzy feeling that comes from working as a team and helping others -- feelings that permeate this program.
