Oh no! James, the big red train engine, has derailed on his way to pick up a load of coal! Kids (ages 3-5) jump right into the action in Thomas & Friends: Trouble on the Tracks (Hasbro) by directing Harold the Helicopter to find him and become part of the rescue operation by playing games to collect more coal at the harbor with Horrid Lorry, realigning the gears on the breakdown crane, listening to train whistles to identify just the right one to replace the one James broke, balancing freight, and locating a new lamp for James. James also needs some repair work, including some bolt tightening and a bit of paint touch up. There are 3 levels of game play, and the challenge increases as kids succeed in helping Thomas and his friends work towards James' recovery. Kids can also print certificates out as they finish each phase of the rescue mission or print out pictures or puzzles of their favorite trains. Thomas fans are sure to love this title. The action moves right along, and the "too human" trains, who grumble and moan about having to shoulder some of the burden left by the accident, always add to kids resolve that they "aren't going to be like that." Everyone would like to be more like the ever patient, hardworking Thomas.
